Steiger Award for Rizzi
James Rizzi’s pictures show that he was born under a lucky star. They burst with energy and a lust for life. On March 25th, 2006 Rizzi’s aesthetic celebration of life was honoured when he received the Steiger Award in the category Art. The Steiger Award is named after the overman in underground mining („Steiger“) and goes to persons who excel in exemplifying the Steiger’s virtues which are: directness, openness, a concern for humanity and tolerance.
Apart from Art, the nine further award categories in 2006 were Music, Charity, Media, Environment, Film, Sports, as well as Lifetime Achievement and the Engagement for the European Project. The winners included among others Jean-Claude Juncker (Europe), Nobel Prize winner Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei (Environment) and star tenor José Carreras, whose continuous charity projects were acknowledged this way.
Getting attentionYet, James Rizzi, too, was eager to use the big stage provided by the Steiger Award Gala to make people aware of his latest charity project. The project „Gone with the Wind“ has emerged from a 3D construction showing a vortex whirling up all kinds of things. After hurricane Katrina had hit New Orleans so badly Rizzi had the feeling that it was morally wrong to profit by the picture. Others, those who were less lucky and suffered should be the beneficiaries.
